‘Demon’s Souls’ PS5 Remake: What’s On The Other Side Of This Mysterious Locked Door?

So far, the best thing about my PlayStation 5 is getting to play Demon’s Souls all over again, this time in stunning 4K that’s truly a sight to behold. I still think the PS3 version of the game looks good, but Bluepoint’s remake is jaw-dropping.

Better still, it contains new mysteries—or at least one new mystery, though I wouldn’t be surprised if players find more in the coming days and weeks.

Players have found an illusory wall in the Boletarian Palace. Specifically, they’ve found an illusory wall in World 1-3. The illusory wall is located in one of the level’s alleys. At first blush, it appears to be a dead end, and players of the original game might simply assume it is.

But it’s not. Striking the wall reveals a short staircase, at the top of which is a door. Any attempts to open the door are greeted with a message informing them that the door is locked. Players have been attempting to unlock the door ever since but, so far at least, nobody has managed to open it.

Reddit user Cosmic Vagabond has managed to use photo mode to see what’s on the other side, or at least a portion of it. What appears to be a glowing item lays tantalizingly on the other side:

What could this be? We won’t be able to answer that question until we answer the more pressing one: How to get to the other side. Perhaps it can only be done on a second playthrough, or when the World Tendency and Character Tendency—two of Demon’s Souls’ most opaque mechanics—align.

I think I’m not alone in saying that I hope this item fixes the sixth, broken Archstone. The Archstone of the Giant leads to a land known as The Northern Limit, but has remained broken and inaccessible in both versions of the game. It’s possible—however unlikely—that this is the key to accessing this new realm. That would be pretty sweet.

It’s a lot to ask, however. It would mean FromSoftware, Sony and Bluepoint all got together and created a brand new area, with new levels, enemies and bosses. Some of this content was created already by FromSoftware when they developed the original game, but scrapped thanks to budget limitations. It’s entirely possible that over the intervening 11 years, they could have worked with Sony and Bluepoint to flesh this out.

I just don’t want to get my hopes up. I’ll report back if and when players figure out how to get through this mysterious locked door. In the meantime, it’s a very exciting mystery to keep us guessing.

I’ll also report back soon with further impressions of the game. As always, I appreciate a follow on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. Umbasa!
