Representative Thomas Massie has found himself in a tough spot as he claims that billionaires are trying to push him out of his seat in the United States Congress. The Rep from Kentucky has an election coming up in 2026, and President Donald Trump is already calling for a challenger to unseat the polarizing Republican lawmaker. While all of that continues to develop, Massie took to social media to spread the message that he feels is the most pressing heading into 2026. Namely, elite control of Congress and a quashing of dissent among people in the Republican party.
Massie has been a voice to release the much-discussed Jeffrey Epstein Files and is calling on more Republican lawmakers to initiate a vote to unseal their contents for the American public. Of course, breaking lockstep with a large segment of his own party has made the Kentucky representative a target in the weeks since the United States Government shut down. As this all drags on, political commentators are anticipating more ire from President Trump to anyone pushing against his agenda. On Twitter, Massie wrote:
“Dogs don’t bark at parked cars. There’s a reason some of the world’s richest and most powerful people are trying to get me out of Congress,” he said. “I’m just one of 435 votes but I bring transparency to an otherwise dark and corrupted institution of government.”
Thomas Massie is in trouble with GOP leadership
A lot of this comes down to supporting the release of the Epstein Files, and it helps to use that as a prism to explain Massie’s current predicament. But, that’s not the only thing this Representative has done to become a thorne in party leadership’s side. With such a narrow majority in both houses of government, even a few defections can have catastrophic effects on passing different parts of a given agenda. The GOP wanted nothing more than to ram through their priorities and Massie has made that harder.
President Trump himself is now calling on Ed Gallerin to unseat Massie in 2026. On social media, the POTUS wrote, “Should he decide to challenge Massie, Captain Ed Gallerin has my Complete and Total Endorsement. RUN, ED, RUN.” There’s more arguing in the statement about Gallerin’s leadership. It’s worth noting the Captain ended up losing a Senate primary to Aaron Reed in 2024. So, it remains to be seen if the President’s nudging will affect the race.
Massie remains steadfast in his calls not to be ousted from this race by billionaire forces. He claims that Miriam Adelson ran ads against him in Kentucky at the behest of President Trump. However, this all seems unlikely to resolve anytime soon. For now, the Representative remains in a standoff with his own party and Democrats.
