There's a public 21-gun royal salute at Cardiff Castle today and you can attend

At 11am on Saturday, September 10 the King Charles will be formally proclaimed monarch at a historic Accession Council.

While it will be televised (for the first time) from 10am there will be events around the UK to mark the occasion. One of these events will be a public 21-gun Royal Salute will take place at 11am in Cardiff Castle to coincide with the Reading of the Principal Proclamation.

The death of the Queen has been an emotional moment for many people with outpourings of support and gratitude coming from around the globe. The public are able to attend this event but there is limited space available. Below is everything we know about how you can attend the event at Cardiff Castle:

How do you attend the 21-gun royal salute at Cardiff Castle?

The event starts at 11am however the gates will open at 10am. Cardiff Council have said that the public are welcome to attend but that there is only space for 2,000 people.

According to the council admittance will be on a "first come, first served basis". Several large guns have already been placed in the heart of Cardiff Castle for the occasion.

It is understood that as this is a military event with no welcome address or speeches. Our reporter will also be attending the event so you will be able to see how it unfolded on WalesOnline.

It is believed that the now King Charles III' first visit to Wales will be for the service at Llandaff Cathedral. However, while Llandaff Cathedral has announced preparations for the national service, the date that it will be held has yet to be confirmed.

A notice outside the cathedral in Cardiff, as well as on its social media, read: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and continue to pray for her and the Royal Family. We regret that the cathedral will be closed until further notice in order for preparations to be made for a national service of remembrance and thanksgiving."
