There's a new Jurassic World film out today and you can watch it online for free

Ever since Steven Spielberg's smash hit Jurassic Park opened in 1993, generations of young cinema-goers have revelled in a refreshed love of dinosaurs.

Spawning four sequels to date and with a final chapter in the works, the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World franchises have made millions of pounds globally.

And now, director Colin Trevorrow has released a much-anticipated mini instalment, set one year after the events of the most recent film.

Initially broadcast on FX Network yesterday (Sunday, September 15), the eight-minute short film Jurassic World: Battle at Big Rock is a special treat for dino fans, who won't be seeing a feature-length sequel for some time, and it's available for free, now, on YouTube.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Jurassic World: Battle at Big Rock

Following on from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, where dinosaurs are now roaming freely across the world, the short film follows a family of four who, you guessed it, end up in a battle for their lives against the wild prehistoric creatures.

Introducing two new species to the canon - the huge, carnivorous Allosaurus and the chunky, herbivorous Nasutoceratops - the new film features a completely new cast in a storyline unrelated to the films so far.

The cast includes André Holland (Moonlight), Natalie Martinez (Under the Dome), Melody Hurd (Fatherhood) and Pierson Salvador.

The short film was written by Emily Carmichael and the cinematographer was Larry Fong.

The next, as-yet-untitled, instalment in the Jurassic World franchise is due on June 11, 2021.
