There's a bottle of out-of-date original recipe Irn Bru going for £250 on eBay

Irn Bru has a cult-like following in Scotland; it is an unspoken truth that our nation's tipple is actually an orange-coloured soft drink and not whisky.

But does the hype even begin to explain why there is an out-of-date bottle of Irn Bru up for sale on eBay for a whopping £250?

The limited edition 750ml bottle features a portrait of Scots poet Rabbie Burn, with a label that says "raise a glass to the bard".

But, more importantly, it contains the elusive original recipe drink, which is like gold dust ever since AG Barr were forced to replace their signature soft drink with a low sugar alternative under new regulations last year.

The change led to widespread revolt amongst Irn Bru fans across the country, who launched a "Hands off our Irn-Bru" petition and planned to "storm' the Barr factory in a call to arms to rescue the original recipe from the sugar cuts.

The Glaswegian seller of the £250 Irn Bru has advertised that the cost of the bottle can be split into 24 instalments of £12 per month using Buy It Now, reports Daily Record.

Shockingly, this is not an anomaly on the Internet, as a quick scroll on eBay will reveal there are plenty of pricey bottles of Irn Bru on the market, with the average price between £100-£150.

If you can't afford that, you can still try an "old and unimproved" version of the iconic drink called "Irn Bru 1901", which hit shelves earlier this week.

The recipe follows a handwritten book stored deep in the Barr company’s archives for over 100 years and will only set you back £2 per bottle but you will have to act fast because in Edinburgh.
