If you're the proud owner of either a 2025 KTM 390 or a 2024 Husqvarna 401, you'll want to learn about the company's latest recall, which it filed with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in December 2025.
What's the issue? Engine control software on affected models may cause these motorcycles to stall at low RPMs. This could, in turn, increase the risk of a crash and/or injury.
Approximately 6,546 motorcycles are affected by this recall, according to KTM's records. This represents 100% of the population as sold in the US. If you are located in a market outside the US and you ride a 2025 KTM 390 or 2024 Husqvarna 401, you may want to check with the safety regulatory authorities in your country to see if there is a similar active recall in your market.

- 2024-2025 KTM 390 Duke
- 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R
- 2025 KTM 390 Adventure X
- 2025 KTM 390 SMC R
- 2025 KTM 390 Enduro R

- 2024 Husqvarna Vitpilen 401
KTM notified its dealer network in North America about this issue on December 1, 2025. The company plans to send notifications to registered owners of affected bikes in this market on or about January 23, 2026, via postal mail.
Owners will be advised about the issue, as well as that they should bring their motorcycles to an authorized KTM/Husqvarna dealer for a recall service, which will be performed at no cost to the customer. Once at their appointments, owners can expect dealers to inspect and update the ECU software, which should remedy the problem.
As for affected units currently in the possession of dealers, KTM notes that these are locked and cannot be sold to customers until the recall service is performed. If any KTM or Husqvarna owners previously paid to have an ECU software update performed to address this issue, they should be eligible for reimbursement as long as they can provide evidence to back their claims.
