Tom and Lupe Izzo founded the Izzo Legacy as a way to give back to a community who they feel have given them so much, even after Izzo is no longer coach of the team. This Saturday, Spartan fans, friends, and anyone who likes to get out and get some exercise for a good cause can contribute to that legacy. You can sign up here. Children and Adults are both welcome, but hurry, as registration ends tomorrow evening.
This is the first 5K the group has hosted, and it will take place before the Spartans Spring Football Game (2pm ET) so you can attend both events, as I’m sure many attendees will be doing. Proceeds will go to multiple charities and organizations, which you can view at the image at the bottom of this article.
The race itself will start at 9am or 10am, depending on which group you are racing with. You will get a free Nike shirt and commemorative medal celebrating the race. If you are an alumnus who lives out of town, you can still participate in the event and get your shirt, as there is a ‘Virtual’ Izzo level for you to contribute at, where they will ship you the shirt and medal within two weeks. It seems like Magic Johnson will be doing that option, although he has much more time to head to East Lansing and participate these days.
