'There is still business to do' - Bristol City CEO discusses transfers after the arrival of Tomas Kalas from Chelsea

Bristol City CEO Mark Ashton says the club's transfer business is far from over despite the Robins landing their sixth summer signing in the space of a week.

City announced the arrival of Tomas Kalas from Chelsea for a club record fee on Monday evening, with the 26-year-old Czech Republic international following Jay Dasilva, Daniel Bentley, Sammie Szmodics, Tommy Rowe and Rene Gilmartin through the door at Ashton Gate.

Despite that haul, Ashton says there is more work to be done.

The club is believed to be keen to bring in another goalscorer to supplement Famara Diedhiou, with reports that Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah or Barnsley's Kieffer Moore might fit the bill.

Speaking after Kalas' arrival, the CEO said: "We're in a good place, I think we've recruited well so far. There is still business to do, there is still trading to do that's for sure.

"In the three-and-a-half years I've been back here I think we've built a real in-depth, strong, recruitment team with a number of people who have a number of roles to play in that department.

"If you like Lee and myself head that department in different ways, but all of those people have played a substantial part in bringing those players to the club this summer, because there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes."

Ashton added that he believes the signing show the club is ready to go to the next level.

He said: "I think it's a statement of intent, that the club intends to take another big stride forward.

"There's a buzz around the place, there's a buzz around the city, and we need to step forward again, we need to keep progressing."
