'There is no evidence that migrants steal jobs'

Jonathan Portes, a professor of economics and public policy at King's College London, gives us his Perspective on the economic impact of migration. According to current estimates, there are 244 million international migrants around the world, roughly 3.3% of the global population. Often accused of being a burden on society and of stealing jobs, Portes says that in general migration is a boon for an economy, pointing out that the UK’s unemployment rate fell sharply at a time of sharp immigration.

Portes is the author of a new book called "The Economics of Migration".
