'There is a desperation' - Alan Shearer makes Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane Liverpool relationship claim

Alan Shearer has questioned the relationship between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane by claiming that he wonders whether or not the pair actually want each other to score goals.

The two have been instrumental in helping the Reds to Champions League and Premier League glory over the last few seasons.

Salah scored 23 goals in all competitions last season, while Mane found the back of the net on 22 occasions.

While the two were also involved in a furious bust-up during their side’s 3-0 win against Burnley in August 2019.

The Senegal international was left seemingly incensed by Salah, who chose to try and take a shot on goal himself, despite Mane being free inside the box.

Mane’s anger then further increased when he was substituted by Jurgen Klopp just minutes after the incident.

And although the two have since played together and continued to link up, Shearer believes there may be a battle going on between the pair.

“I look at these two and wonder whether they actually want the other to score,” he told the Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast.

“They have been deadly though, and I do think Roberto Firmino helps them in that sense because he has been the link-up to allow them to have a free role.

“Their goalscoring record is ridiculous. They are almost impossible to mark when they are on their game.

“There is a desperation, a need and a want from Salah to put the ball in the back of the net.”
