There have now been more than 122,000 coronavirus cases in the Bristol region

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Bristol region has now topped 122,000, according to the latest figures.

Public Health England's official figures show that there have now been 122,142 cases of the virus in the region since the start of the pandemic.

It comes after today's (September 13) update which showed that another 178 cases of the virus had been recorded.

The highest number of cases was found in Bristol, where 69 positive tests were returned.

It was followed by South Gloucestershire, where there 40 new cases, Bath and North East Somerset, where 36 cases were recorded, and North Somerset, which found 33 cases.

No new coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in the area today.

The Government said a further 61 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Monday, bringing the UK total to 134,261.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 158,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Monday, there had been a further 30,825 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to September 12 shows that of the 92,487,365 Covid jabs given in the UK, 48,439,272 were first doses, a rise of 14,955 on the previous day.

Some 44,048,093 were second doses, an increase of 52,615.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 57,548 (+69)

  • North Somerset - 18,640 (+33)

  • South Gloucestershire - 29,064 (+40)

  • Bath and North East Somerset - 16,890 (+36)

The total number of deaths recorded in each region, with any increase in brackets, is as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 517 (-)

  • North Somerset - 325 (-)

  • South Gloucestershire - 367 (-)

  • Bath and North East Somerset - 234 (-)
