There has finally been a sighting of Jacob Rees-Mogg - at the polling station

Jacob Rees-Mogg’s absence on the campaign trail has caused a great deal of speculation ahead of this general election.

The Tory minister has barely been seen anywhere since making some ill-advised comments about the victims of the Grenfell disaster.

Last month the Commons Leader told LBC those who died could have saved themselves if they had used “common sense” and fled the burning tower block.

The November 4 interview, for which he apologised, followed a picture of him slouched across the frontbench in Parliament going viral.

Since these incidents, the Conservative candidate for North East Somerset has not been seen in front of a TV camera or radio microphone - although he has occasionally pop-up on social media with some sort of pro-Brexit or anti-Corbyn message.

There have been searches to find him conducted by national and local media and the Prime Minister Boris Johnson was asked during the campaign whether it was "all over" for Mr Rees-Mogg.

The PM responded by saying Mr Rees-Mogg was in 'good health' and fighting for re-election along with the rest of the Cabinet.

Well it seems that the leader of the House of Commons has finally surfaced.

Mr Rees-Mogg has tweeted to say that he has cast his vote at his local polling station, West Harptree Memorial Hall in the Chew Valley, Somerset.

The Arch-Brexiteer has held the North East Somerset seat since 2010. He was returned in 2017 with an 18.9 percent majority.

The other candidates standing in the constituency are:

Labour - Mark Huband

Liberal Democrats - Nick Coates

Greens - Fay Emily Whitfield

Independent - Shaun Hughes
