After the indictment of former FBI director James Comey was made public on Thursday, Sept. 25, the longtime nemesis of Donald Trump released a video statement against him called himself innocent.
Comey took to his Instagram account to address the indictment that he’s facing on two felony counts, both tied to the congressional proceeding of Sept. 30, 2020. In his video, Comey claimed that he and his family have “known for years” that standing up to Trump will come with a cost. However, he announced that his family could not imagine “living any other way” and giving in to the MAGA monster‘s tyranny, and hence, he is where he is today.
Comey then speaks to everyone living in fear of Trump’s twisted ways, and says, “We will not live on our knees” advising everyone “you shouldn’t either.” He also quoted his daughter and ex-presecutor Maurene Comey in his video, who was recently fired, saying “Somebody that I love dearly recently said that fear is the tool of a tyrant, and she’s right.” However, he announces loud and clear that he’s not afraid of Trump, and hopes nobody else is either.
“I hope you are instead engaged, you are paying attention and you will vote like your beloved country depends upon it, which it does.”
Comey continues, saying “my heart is broken for the Department of Justice.” However, he expressed faith and confidence in the federal judicial system despite Trump’s administration’s constant tries to rig it. “I am innocent, so let’s have a trial and keep the faith,” he said. Comey’s video statement was shared across social media, garnerning support and criticism both. Crticis argued that it’s not Trump who indicted him, but a Grand Jury after 14 of at most 23 grand jurors decided prosecutors had probable cause to indict Comey.
