Objectors to plans for two more takeaways in Porth town centre say there are already enough of them in the area.
There are plans for a change of use of an auction house at 66B Hannah Street into two takeaways and a shop.
The building was also previously a chapel and planning permission for it to be used as an auction house was given in May, 2017.
But letters sent opposing the application, including one from the Porth Chamber of Trade, claim that the town is already well catered for when it comes to food and drink outlets.
The objections say that there are currently in excess of 45 food outlets available in Porth and that a decision was made in 2010 to stop any further food outlets stating that Porth is well catered for.
The objectors also say that they would welcome more shops and other business opportunities to enrich the shopping experience within Porth town and increase footfall during the day and that there are plenty of goods currently unavailable within Porth itself.

But planning officers at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council disagree.
They say in their report that “the proposed uses would provide active uses within a vacant property that would increase footfall to Hannah Street in Porth and would contribute to the vitality and viability of the retail area.
Concerns over planning process in RCT after takeaway plan approved
“Whilst two objections have been raised, stating there are too many takeaways in the area, the council’s retail policy in the Local Development Plan, however, supports food and drink uses within these areas.
“Furthermore, it is not considered there is an over dominance of food/takeaway uses and that the balance of different retail uses on the street is acceptable.

“In all other material planning considerations it is considered the development would be acceptable.
The design and access statement submitted with the application says it would prevent the building from falling into disrepair and becoming a target for anti-social behaviour.
It also says it will preserve the character and appearance of this part of the town centre and provide a beneficial re-use of the property that will attract footfall to the town centre.
Councillor Julie Williams, who represents Porth on RCT Council, has requested that the matter goes before planning and development committee so it can consider the impact on the retail area and local trade.
Committee will discuss the application on Thursday, August 15.
