There are 73 new homes set to be built at an old telephone engineering centre in Swansea's Cockett

A housing development with up to 73 homes could be built in Cockett. If given the go-ahead, the plans put forward by applicant Telereal Trillium would see the properties built on the Swansea Gors TEC site at Heol y Gors.

Existing buildings on the site, which has been used as a telephone engineering centre since the early eighties, would be demolished to make way for the new homes if the application was approved.

A design and access statement produced by agent WYG Group said the development would offer a level of affordable housing.

It said: "There will be a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom houses.

"The proposed house types for the site will be well proportioned and will be designed to ensure that features are used in a contemporary way and not as a pastiche of historical styles.

"The development will incorporate a mix of house types, intended to appeal to first time buyers as well as to existing home owners.

"Subject to viability, the development offers the opportunity to accommodate an agreed level of affordable housing."

The development would feature a mixture of detached, semi-detached and linked homes and would be built on 2.14 hectares of land.

Access to the homes would be via Heol y Gors and lead into a cul-de-sac, however, the site could be extended "into a looped road system".

The statement also said: "The vision is for the land off Heol y Gors to become a desirable and sustainable place to live for local people and newcomers, providing new homes in a safe and attractive environment that is near to a full range of community facilities.

"A place that provides enjoyment for all residents, complements that character of the area and the surrounding landscape.

"The aim of the proposed development is to create an attractive, safe, legible and secure environment for future residents."
