Theo Walcott shares how away end party atmosphere against Tottenham affected Everton's players

Theo Walcott has explained how the party atmosphere in Everton's away end affected the players during the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday.

Despite the Blues having nothing to play for in north London, fans were in high spirits throughout the game thanks to results from elsewhere in the Premier League.

Everton supporters on the road have been fantastic throughout the campaign, and the atmosphere at Goodison Park over the last few months has been a particular source of joy for the players.

And Walcott confirmed that the mood in the away end on Sunday was further proof of how important the fans are to this team.

He remarked: "They're massive, 100%. I feel like they're the missing piece of the puzzle we always need for the team.

"They're fantastic. Home and away throughout the course of the season they've been brilliant, even when we've had some terrible performances.

"Today they've shown their numbers, and I didn't really hear the Tottenham fans at times because they were that loud. Particularly when Liverpool were losing [the Premier League title] I think they got louder!

"So I feel like they enjoyed their day overall and they'll have a very peaceful journey home. Everyone is going to be buzzing I'm sure."

Everton fans were focused on results from elsewhere in the Premier League, with the title going to either Manchester City or Liverpool on the final day.

But the winger claimed the players didn't allow that to come into their minds, despite clearly being able to hear what was happening in the stands.

"I didn't really take notice of the other games, you can't, you've just got to get on with what we're doing here," Walcott added.

"We just wanted to finish eighth, no matter what we wanted to finish there so we had a job to do.

"You can't not hear it and you think to yourself maybe someone has scored, but you've got to come straight back to the game, it's as simple as that.

"You can't really control anything apart from what you do on the field, here. We're pleased with what we did particularly in the second half."

The 30-year-old made his first start in over two months in north London having been restricted to appearances off the bench over the last few weeks.

Walcott did, however, bag his second goal in his last four appearances with his strike against Spurs - and is already looking ahead to next season in royal blue.

He said: "Obviously I've worked really hard to try and get back into the team. The team's been playing really very well so it's always tough when you've got competition.

"It's always nice to end the season on a high. Of course I just want to score more goals, but more importantly I want the team to win.

"I want to get back in the starting line-up, it's as simple as that. I'll have a good rest now, recover and hopefully I'll be very focused for next season. It's going to be a big one."
