Theo Walcott sends Everton message as transfer confirmed

Theo Walcott has thanked Everton after Southampton confirmed he will join the club permanently this summer.

Walcott returned to his boyhood club on loan at the beginning of the campaign and made 22 appearances in all competitions.

The 32-year-old arrived at Everton under Sam Allardyce for £20m in 2018 and went on to feature for Marco Silva and Carlo Ancelotti at Goodison Park.

But he was deemed surplus to requirements in the final year of his contract and allowed an emotional return to Southampton, where he started his career before joining Arsenal for £9m in 2006 as a 16-year-old.

How should Theo Walcott's time at Everton be remembered? Have your say in the comments.

Walcott said: "Southampton is a club that means so much to me, and it has been incredibly special for me to have spent this season back at St Mary’s.

"But to now have the opportunity to return for a further two years means such a great deal to me, both personally and professionally.

"I would like to say a huge thank you to the club, my teammates and the fans for making me feel so welcome back here, and I can’t wait to continue pulling on the shirt in the next couple of seasons.

"I would also like to say thank you to everyone at Everton who have been so good to me throughout my time with the club, and I wish them every success in the future."
