Theo Walcott explains Everton transfer and gives supporter verdict

Theo Walcott has explained why he made the move to Everton in an interview with former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

The winger was one of Sam Allardyce's two signings as Blues manager in January of 2018, following Turkish international Cenk Tosun through the door of Goodison Park at that time.

That brought the former England international's 12-year spell with Arsenal to an end and started a Blues career which has produced 11 goals in 83 appearances in all competitions thus far.

And, when asked about why Everton was so appealing to him, Walcott explained that he always had a soft spot for the club - and he believes the fans have been fantastic with him since his arrival.

He told Players Tribune Houseguest Europe : "It's funny, they're a club I've always liked. It happened to just come across (at the right time), the way Big Sam (Allardyce) wanted me.

"The club at the time were going through a transition stage.

"I thought at the time, I want to try something different. Not just that, Everton, for me are a massive club and have ambitions to be even bigger.

"The players they have, the squad is a fantastic squad. It's very close and I wanted to be part of that.

"To be fair, Everton fans have just been brilliant."

Walcott's two goals across 2019/20 both came under new manager Carlo Ancelotti, including the winner in a 3-2 comeback victory away to Watford in February.
