AYUTTHAYA: A man notorious for committing criminal offences against foreign tourists has been arrested for a bag snatch.
Pol Col Sarawut Tankul, the Tourist Police Subdivision 2 commander, identified the man as Anusorn Hemarak, 37.
On March 23 Mr Anusom allegedly snatched bags away from two female German tourists while they were strolling in front of Chao Phu Chui Shrine behind Chao Phrom Market in Ayutthaya's Old City, and then fled on a motorcycle.
Mr Anusorn was found later that day with the motorcycle behind Wat Pradu Songtham temple in tambon Phai Ling of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district, and arrested.
In a lengthy interrogation session, the man allegedly confessed to having stolen items from foreign tourists on numerous occasions. He was previously arrested by Ayutthaya police and given jail sentences in both 1997 and 2014.
Since his release from prison less than a year ago, the police commander said, he had been unemployed and addicted to drugs - prompting his return to bag snatching, mostly from female foreign tourists.
