
CHON BURI: Theeramet Kobprasert stunned top seed Patralapas Chaihuancharoen in style to win the boys' U17 singles title and complete a sweep of the 2019 SCG Junior Championships badminton tournament titles at Sri Racha Arena Sport Club.
In the singles showdown, Theeramet took only 30 minutes to beat Patralapas 21-15, 21-18.
Theeramet won the doubles title earlier in the day at the central leg of the 1.5-million-baht.
"Today's win gives me a boost," said Theeramet. "I want to win the national title in Bangkok in June and earn a place in the national team. I'll train harder to make my dream become true."
Having won the U15 title last year, Patralapas moved up to play in the U17 category and made it to the final in Sri Racha.
In the doubles final, second seeds Theeramet and Pumitat Yensabai upset top seeds Kunanon Yossaksri and Phudis Suksomchon 21-13, 21-17 in just 18 minutes.
In the girls' U17 action, second seed Nareerat Hongsa surprised top seed and defending champion Nutchayada Faksuwan 24-22, 21-16.
But Nareerat fell just short in the doubles as she and Nutchayada were defeated by top seeds Suchanya Puawaranukroh and Pitchayapa Phuyadao 21-15, 12-21, 21-15 in a 50-minute battle.
Favourite Tankhun Tienchant clinched the boys' U15 singles and doubles titles with ease.
In the singles, he beat Thanakorn Meechai 21-14, 21-9, while in the doubles both shuttlers teamed up as the top seeds to defeat second seeds Nathaphon Phumarind and Athirati Insri 21-13, 21-16.
The fourth leg of the series will be held from May 7-9 at in Nakhon Sri Thammarat and the grand finals will be held from June 4-8 in Bangkok.
