Theatres reopen at 50% capacity in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: Active Covid-19 cases in Puducherry dropped below 0.7% on Friday, which is less than the national average of 1.3%.

The Union territory has so far reported 1.21 lakh cases, 872 are under treatment. The UT reported 88 fresh cases and one death on Friday. Puducherry headquarters reported the maximum fresh cases with 55 followed by Mahe (22), Karaikal (8) and Yanam (3).

The death toll so far is 1,799. Healthcare authorities have so far administered 7.27 lakh doses of vaccines against Covid-19 including the second dose. Meanwhile, cinema theatres and multiplexes barring those in the containment zones reopened with 50% seating capacity on Friday.

The Puducherry government lifted a few restrictions as the incidence of the Covid-19 started declining in the territory. The government has directed the cinema houses and multiplexes to follow the standard operating procedures to prevent the spread of the infection.
