Theatres, concerts and live events can resume from Monday May 17

Theatres, gig venues and sports stadia will all be allowed to reopen from Monday May 17, the Prime Minister has confirmed.

Boris Johnson addressed the nation via press conference today to announce that England will be moving to step three of the Government's roadmap out of lockdown.

The country has passed the four tests - which include the vaccination roll-out and the rate of hospitalisations - which will allow restrictions to ease further.

Reaching step three will mean that indoor hospitality spaces, indoor entertainment and leisure facilities, and hotels and B&Bs can finally reopen.

Live events can resume too, with capacity limits in place.

Indoor events will be allowed to go ahead with a capacity of 1000 people, or half the venue's full capacity - whichever is smaller.

Outdoors, events can go ahead with 4000 people, or again, half the venue's full capacity.

For the largest seated outdoors venues, such as football stadiums, up to 10,000 people will be allowed to attend, or 25 per cent of the venue's capacity.

The news follows several pilot events in Liverpool in recent weeks, including a live concert from Blossoms, which relied on testing to safely take place.

However, many cultural venues had previously said it wouldn't be financially viable to reopen with such restrictions in place.
