As he's proved in novels, radio plays and film scripts such as Millions and Cosmic, Frank Cottrell-Boyce is a very clever writer whose easy style grabs you, but who often has profound things to say about the world. He can do it from the point of view of the child or teenager, too. So this new play about and aimed at the MySpace generation should be great fun as it looks at the difference between smart and clever in a group of young people who have, unfortunately for them, been called "the dumbest generation". A multimedia show, set partly in cyberspace, it tells of a gang of teenage girls who think that they are the bee's knees. But when needy Bex stumbles into their virtual world, things don't quite go the way they had planned. Teenagers may be the target audience, but Proper Clever should be proper theatre for all ages.
