Theatre preview: Home, Bristol

After 14 months of uncertainty surrounding its future, Bristol Old Vic launches its new programme with brilliant local company Travelling Light making a show for younger children that examines the idea of what makes a house a home. It feels very appropriate - not just because it marks the temporary reopening of the much-loved venue before it closes again for redevelopment - but also because so many of those involved in the show come from the local community. Director Sally Cookson has a long association making Christmas shows at the Old Vic, including We're Going On A Bear Hunt, and the music is by Bristol-based musician and composer Pete Judge, who has done some great work with Kneehigh. It is exactly the right show to reopen the venue, reflecting BOV's welcome new emphasis on participation, openness and artistic collaboration.
