The Young Offenders stars Chris Walley and Alex Murphy say their families are best of pals after fierce start

The Young Offenders stars Chris Walley and Alex Murphy revealed their families are now the best of pals despite a rocky start.

The pair met when auditioning for the movie in 2015 and the competition was fierce.

Alex, 21, who plays Conor, was still in school so had to bring his mum along to the audition.

He told the RTE Guide: “When Chris went to the toilet, I told my mum not to be too nice to him because it would only make him too comfortable.”

Chris, 24, who plays Jack, said: “You’d have to go in and have fun and since we made The Young Offenders, both of our families are good friends with each other.

“By the way, can you mention our grannies who both love the show?”

The success of the 2016 movie led to a TV show of the same name, produced for the BBC and RTE.

The first series consisted of six episodes and was received so well that a second season was made.

Conor and Jack will return to our screens on RTE 2 and BBC One from next Monday, November 11.
