I really liked this book – it made me cry, laugh and want to read it again and again.
It's about Pearl, a sixteen year old teenager, whose mum dies giving birth to her premature sister, Rose. The story describes how she struggles to accept that life goes on even without the people you love. It's about how much she hates Rose, who she calls "The Rat", and the way she has to hide all her feelings for Rose from her dad, her friends, but especially from her mum, who sometimes "visits" her, and helps her.
I think this book is simply amazing; it's written beautifully, I could really feel Pearl's anger and sadness. I like the way every chapter is a month, in total twelve, to make a year. I would recommend this book to everyone who likes books that are about difficult problems in life and how to overcome them.
I particularly liked the supernatural element when her mum appears to her. I don't think there was a dull part in the book and it was so good, that a week after I finished it I read it all again, even though I knew what was going to happen!
