Former star of The X Life Denise Russo has died at the age of 44.

According to reports, Denise was found unresponsive on the floor of her friend's house in San Diego.

Emergency services tried to resuscitate her but she was soon pronounced dead.

Drug paraphernalia was reportedly found at the scene, as reported by TMZ.

Her cause of death is not yet known.

Denise's friend and castmate Susie Stenberg told the publication she was homeless and living in her car when she died.

Susie called her "the most loving and loyal person."

After hearing of her death, fans and friends rushed to her Instagram to pay tribute.

"My angel. I’m sorry for all your pain, be at peace now. I’ll always keep my eye and heart on The little Lion," one user said.

Another added: "Love you Denise," while others posted love hearts and praying hands emojis.

She was best known for starring in the VH1 show, The X-Life, in 2011 as a part of one of three couples on the series.

They followed the lives of extreme sports athletes and their partners.

At the time, she was in a relationship with skateboarder Pierre-Luc Gagnon.

There was only one season of the series, which consisted of 10 episodes.

She is survived by her and Pierre-Luc's son Leo.

She previously paid tribute to her son in a sweet Instagram post.

The caption read: "To my Lion Wolf, you are the reason the sun shines bright in the sky, why the moon glows, is full and the stars twinkle.

"Leo you are why the world is good baby and magical. Thank you for being my son my cub! Love of my life, no one compares to you."
