The X Factor: Celebrity fans gobsmacked by Glee star's transformation

The X Factor: Celebrity fans were left stunned by Kevin McHale 's real life transformation.

The Glee actor looked a world away from his character, disabled student Artie Abrams, as he performed tonight.

He managed to wow judges Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh with his soaring vocals.

But some viewers were confused as they were convinced he used a wheelchair in real life.

One Glee superfan tweeted: "After watching glee for years I’m still trying to process seeing Kevin McHale and no wheelchair."

Another puzzled viewer penned: "I genuinely thought he needed Artie's wheelchair!"

"Expected Kevin to come out in a wheelchair singing don’t stop believing," a third joked.

But this isn't the first time that fans have been gobsmacked by the fact Kevin doesn't have a disability off the show.

He was called out by a group of disabled actors who were left upset over the casting of a non-paraplegic person on the politically incorrect musical comedy.

The star was viewed as a prime obstacle to showcase stars with real-life disabilities on TV.

McHale told fans in 2009 that he could really walk, which left them surprised at his confession.

But he told PopEater that he's not surprised fans are shocked he can walk because as he says, "I'm really good at not moving my legs."

Last year the actor shed seven-pounds in 12 weeks after dramatically working on his fitness.

He teamed up with Ultimate Performance to achieve his new look.

Shortly after, the actor announced he was gay, and he gave tribute to Ariana Grande and her song No Tears Left To Cry for helping him do so.

Taking to Twitter , he wrote: "#NoTearsLeftToCry is gayer than me and I ACCEPT. Ty @arianaGrande."
