A new survey has revealed the best and worst UK cities for sexual health - and it’s not good news for Cardiff residents.
The survey, by Medicine Direct, quizzed 2,368 Brits from across the UK about their sexual health.
Questions included how often participants practice safe sex, how often they are tested for STIs and the amount of sex education they have received.
The results revealed that Cardiff topped the rankings for three factors – the lowest number of people who practice safe sex (22%), the most people who wouldn’t get a test after unprotected sex (11%), and the highest percentage who wouldn’t be confident recognising STI symptoms (25%).
Cardiff was closely followed by Glasgow and Belfast, while Edinburgh came in fourth, despite having the highest percentage of people who have never taken an STI test (76%).
Meanwhile, Bristol residents will be happy to hear that Bristol came out on top, as the best city for sexual health.
Hussain Abdeh, Superintendent Pharmacist at Medicine Direct, said: “In light of our findings, we want to try and address the conversation about positive sexual health.
“Our survey has highlighted that people are taking a risk with their own health, and other people’s.
“Considering how easy it is to get your sexual health checked these days – whether by postal tests, sexual health clinics or your GP – there is a real need for improvement within our sexually active population.”
