The "worst road" in Ayr to be fixed

One of the “worst roads in Ayr” will be fixed after fed-up residents signed a petition.

Meadowpark in Belmont has been compared to the surface of the moon.

Ex councillor Ian Douglas knocked on doors to gain support for getting maintenance work done.

The  efforts paid off when South Ayrshire Council agreed to add the residential route to their annual road improvement plan for the upcoming year.

Ian approached Councillor Chris Cullen about how to get the problem sorted and then decided to collect signatures.

Ian said:  “The street where I live is in a terrible state.
“I  organised the petition and did the door to door. Chris presented the petition to the Ayrshire Roads Alliance.

We have a result.”
Delighted Ian who chairs the Belmont, Kincaidston and St Leonards Community Council, was able to break the good news to his neighbours.

Councillor Cullen said: “There are dips on the road. It is like driving on the moon. The bottom end is the worst. It is probably one of the worst roads in Ayr.

“It is a main thoroughfare to Belmont School.”
Meadowpark now joins two other Ay residential streets, Carrick Avenue and Merkland Road to be included in the councl’s roadwork plan.

Bosses are splashing out £2.3 million on resurfacing the roads in upcoming months.

The work is expected to be completed before April.

Ayr’s Main Street, Castlehill Road, Boswell Park and the Sandgate are all in line to be resurfaced in upcoming months.
