Sunderland have it all to do in the League One play-offs - if history is anything to go by.
It's often said that the side which finishes third - just outside the automatic promotion places - has the biggest challenge to lift themselves for the rigours of the play-offs.
But according to the stats, it's the side which finishes in fifth spot who have the worst record when it comes to reaching the Championship in the end-of-season contest.
In the 30 years of the current play-off system, the side finishing fifth have only gone up five times - just 17 per cent of the time.
History counts for nothing as far as Jack Ross and his men are concerned, of course, but the last side to win promotion from fifth was Barnsley way back in 2006.
Sunderland take on Portsmouth over two legs for the right to face either Charlton or Doncaster Rovers at Wembley at the end of the month.
However, it's anyone's game at this stage, according to the bookmakers.
OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton said: "The historic nature of the League One play-offs point to anyone but Sunderland , the battle for promotion has been so close all the way, they are hard to separate and the Bookmakers agree.
"In most places Portsmouth, Charlton and Sunderland are level at around 9/4 with Doncaster someway behind at 9/2."
