The worrying reason Michail Antonio was not in West Ham squad to face Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool

Michail Antonio was not in the West Ham United squad to face Liverpool in the Premier League game at the London Stadium tonight because of a minor hamstring injury.

The versatile attacker had been struggling with injury in the past couple of weeks and featured off the bench at half-time in the embarrassing FA Cup fourth-round defeat to West Bromwich Albion last Saturday.

However, a West Ham source has told football.london that the 29-year-old felt a minor tweak in his hamstring during training yesterday and a decision was taken not to risk him against Jurgen Klopp's runaway league leaders.

David Moyes, the West Ham manager, is hopeful that Antonio will be fit for the crucial visit of fellow strugglers Brighton and Hove Albion this Saturday.

Antonio has been troubled by hamstring injuries for a number of years and has missed a significant portion of the past two seasons. However, when fit he has been key for the Hammers and his absence is considering a major blow.

The Scot made six changes to the side that lost against West Brom with 19-year-old Jeremy Ngakia given a surprise debut on the right of a back five also featuring Arthur Masuaku, who had recovered from a knee injury.

New signing Tomas Soucek, who will be available to face Brighton after completing a loan move from Slavia Prague that will likely be made permanent in the summer once West Ham avoid relegation, was presented with his new No28 shirt in front of the home fans before kick-off.
