The worrying Patrick Bamford development after Leeds United's controversial draw with Aston Villa

Leeds United could be without striker Patrick Bamford for the Championship play-off semi-finals after the hugely controversial 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Sunday.

Two minutes of chaos at Elland Road saw two goals and a red card as a melee broke out between Leeds and Villa players.

Mateusz Klich's goal was scored when Villa had Jonathan Kodjia down injured with the away side expecting Leeds to kick the ball out of play.

Anwar El Ghazi was sent off for appearing to elbow Bamford with the Leeds striker given a yellow card for his involvement. Video footage has shown that there was very little or no contact.

Villa have now confirmed they will be appealing the decision and if they are successful this could see Bamford exposed for a potential charge of simulation.

Bamford could today be charged with “successfully deceiving” referee Stuart Attwell.

A two or three match ban is a possible punishment and that would see him potentially miss the final league game against Ipswich Town before either one or both legs of the play-off semi-finals.

Leeds are currently set to meet Derby County in the play-off semi-finals before a possible final against either West Brom or Aston Villa.
