The worrying Bundesliga stat Tottenham must ensure isn't repeated on Premier League return

Tottenham fans won't have to wait too much longer to see their team back in Premier League action.

Last on the pitch in early March as they fell to a convincing 3-0 defeat against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, Jose Mourinho's men will host Manchester United on Friday week.

It's the first of nine huge games for the club as they bid to seal a place in the top four against the odds.

Spurs are currently seven points off Chelsea in the race for a spot in Europe's top competition and they have it all to do.

However, the return of football may work to the team's advantage now that they have key players such as Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko, Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn back from injury.

Another plus point for Mourinho's men on their return is the fact five of their remaining nine games are at home.

Manchester United, West Ham, Everton, Arsenal and Leicester City are due to visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with away trips to Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace also on the agenda.

Spurs' performances this season have been extremely mixed and a key reason why they are facing a major fight for the top four, yet their results on their home patch have been decent with eight wins, two draws and four defeats from their 14 games.

Their results away from home leave a lot to be desired as they have only won three of their 15 fixtures, with six draws and six defeats making up their other 12 games.

A look at Spurs' form both home and away this season has highlighted that home advantage is going to be key for them if they are to seal a top-four spot come the final day.

What the return of the Bundesliga has demonstrated, however, is that home advantage and the form book have completely gone out of the window since football restarted in Germany.

Only 10 games have been won at home in the 46 since the resumption of the division, with a shock 22 away wins and 14 draws completing the numbers.

Last weekend in the Bundesliga highlighted the recent struggles at home as only SC Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund won on their own turf from the nine games played.

The loss of home support has certainly had a huge bearing on the outcome of games and it may well happen in the Premier League once the league is up and running again next Wednesday.

Tottenham must ensure that isn't the case as defeats at home will prove incredibly costly in their fight to seal an place in the 2020/21 Champions League.
