The world's last ever Blockbuster is now available to rent on Airbnb...in Oregon

The world’s last remaining Blockbuster store is being transformed into an Airbnb in Oregon.

Film fanatics can now have a sleepover final store of the former video rental giant.

The outlet, in Bend, Oregon, costs just $4 (£3) plus fees and taxes for a night’s stay – little more than the price of a video rental.

Released photos show a part of the store has been transformed into a living room with a big television and couch that folds out into a bed.

The store will have three quarantine pods to ensure social distancing, and a pull-out couch, bean bags and pillows, with a vast array of retro films available to watch.

There will also be a boombox and video games for visitors to play.

Sandi Harding, the store’s manager, says she decided to run the sleepover to show her appreciation for the support from the local community that her business has received.

Blockbuster was founded in 1995, and was the lead video rental franchise in the 1990s, with 9,000 locations worldwide. However, after streaming services became more popular, it lost 75 percent of its market value between 2003 and 2005. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2010.

By 2017, only 10 stores remained in the US. Today, the store in Bend, Oregon is the only one left.

Blockbuster made a brief return to social media this week, tweeting on Tuesday for the first time since 2014: "Just checking in."

But the brand quickly had enough of Twitter, writing just eight hours later: "Ok, we've seen enough. Checking out."

The stays in the Oregon store are only available to residents from the Deschutes County area, and will take place between September 18 and September 20.
