'The world has never been the same' Scots remember 9/11 terror attack and victims 19 years on

Scots have paid tribute to 9/11 victims 19 years on from the attacks that shocked the globe.

On September 11, 2001, two hijacked planes struck New York's World Trade Center in what would be one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in history.

The image of the Twin Towers ablaze will forever be etched into the memories of millions worldwide who watched the heartbreaking scenes unfold on that fateful day.

Some 2,977 people died in the attacks, including in the Pentagon and a plane which was brought down by heroic passengers in a Pennsylvania field.

On the anniversary of 9/11, Daily Record readers have remembered what they were doing the moment the terrible news broke.

This is how the Daily Record broke the story in 2001 (Daily Record)

Fiona Conway said: "My husband and I were in New York on holiday. Luckily we had slept in as we were supposed to be having breakfast up there that morning. It was awful and still seems like yesterday."

Margaret Judge said: "Turned on the TV as the second plane went in. Couldn't believe it, was like a disaster movie. All those poor people."

Sam Docherty said: "I was in art class. Eight years later I gave birth to my son who's 11 today. So today is a bit of joy for me instead. R.I.P those who lost their lives. The world's never been the same."

Ann Squires said: "We were due to fly from Logan airport in Boston, to Heathrow that afternoon. Needless to say that flight was delayed for a few days. Such a tragic event. "

Johno Balaze said: "I remember walking in to a pub and it was on the TV live. I was like 'what film is that you're watching?'"

Paul Wilson said: "Scary times. I was 13 years old lying on my granny's couch off school not well then this comes onto every single TV station. It's got to be the single most horrific thing I've ever witnessed live on the news."

Amanda Hoatson said: "I remember watching it on news, was sat in my in-laws house feeding my daughter as she was 6 months old at the time."

Tony Hayes said: "I still have the newspapers from that very day."

Aileen Gemmell said: "I was pairing socks off from washing. God bless."

Caroline Bassendowski said: "That day was surreal, it was like being in suspension not believing what my eyes were seeing. It was eerie, it was devastating and it broke every heart including mine."

Eleanor Brown said: "Watched it as it occurred, couldn’t believe it."
