The Works bosses remain tight-lipped on possibility of Kilmarnock store opening

Bosses at a discount retailer have refused to confirm if they are opening a store in Kilmarnock.

Job adverts for The Works in Kilmarnock have appeared online in recent weeks.

However, chiefs at the books, art and craft materials retailer are remaining tight-lipped on any proposed shop in the town.

Adverts for an assistant manager and store manager roles state that the shop is set to open soon.

The rumours surfaced as work to transform the former Stationery Box shop on King Street got underway last week.

The Works already have a store in Ayr.

The company want to add 150 new stores to high streets across the UK in the next three years.

Chief executive Kevin Keaney said: “We’ve significantly expanded our presence across the UK in the last couple of years, having just opened our 500th store last month.

“We work hard to bring more customers across the country a huge range of products at amazing value and every opening brings us one step closer to our ambition to open 650 stores by 2022.”
