The Woolpackers: Emmerdale's former band we would all rather forget

Who could forget 'The Woolpackers', every Emmerdale fan will remember that time when the cast of the ITV soap attempted to cash in on the popularity of line dancing at the time.

The Woolpackers consisted of Steve Halliwell, Billy Hartman and Alun Lewis, all three of whom were stars of Emmerdale at the time.

Despite numerous criticisms of their style, the English country rock trio of the 1990s achieved a hit single with "Hillbilly Rock Hillbilly Roll" in November 1996, reaching number 5 in the UK Singles Chart.

And there success didn't stop there.

The parent album 'Emmer Dance' reached number 26 in the UK Albums Chart only a few weeks later.

Another of their songs "Line Dance Party" hit number 25 and their second album The Greatest Line Dancing Party reached number 48 in the UK a year after that.

Sadly, as the era drew to an end and people moved on from line dancing, so did The Woolpackers.

The Woolpackers was a band in the 1990s made up of Emmerdale actors (ITV)

And despite being the epitome of cheese, fans still remember them fondly.

One fan said: "I loved them, I went to line dancing and danced to that, a long time ago."

A second posted: "I remember those days, loved that line dancing with the Woolpackers."

A third added: "I bought the CD they made, it was fab!"
