The wonderkids to watch out for, best team Moyes can pick as West Ham get Premier League boost

It's Saturday! But we are not reflecting on West Ham United's London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

That match was scheduled to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last night, but at an emergency Premier League meeting on Friday, it was confirmed that no football in England's top-flight will take place until April 30 at the earliest.

But with so many games to rearrange and the coronavirus expected to reach its peak in the coming months, will there be enough space in the calendar to complete the season?

English football suspended until at least April 30 due to coronavirus pandemic

Plenty of questions remain unanswered about West Ham United who are battling for their survival at the bottom of the table.

As ever, football.london will keep you across all the fallout from the Premier League meeting and what happens next with six weeks until the players are back in action.

With that said, here's all the news from around the London Stadium over the past 24 hours.

West Ham wonderkids to watch out for

West Ham's under-23s have experienced a promotion and a relegation in successive seasons.

But in 2019/2020 they are back on the right path and the future is looking bright.

Relegation to Premier League 2 coupled with the departures of Terry Westley and Liam Manning last summer resulted in major changes in the academy at Chadwell Heath.

Ricky Martin was appointed as the new head of the academy and Dmitri Halajko (pictured above) came in from Leicester City to be the Hammers academy under-23 lead coach.

Under the watch of the duo, the under-23s have embarked on an unbeaten league season so far prior to the Covid-19 pandemic suspension as they sit atop of division two, three points clear of second-placed Manchester United.

Moyes' strongest team

David Moyes will have plenty of time on his hands to pick what he thinks is his best team for when Premier League action resumes.

If it does...

In a dream world where Moyes has a fully fit squad to choose from, what would be his strongest team?

Does Jack Wilshere hold down a midfield spot despite his time in east London being disrupted by injuries? What is the Hammers' best central defensive partnership?

What is the best system?

With so many things to take into consideration, football.london has taken a look at the strongest team Moyes can pick if the Premier League resumes.

Predicted final Premier League table hands West Ham a boost

The conclusion of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign is currently in limbo.

England’s top flight season is postponed until Thursday April 30 at the earliest, with Premier League clubs currently facing an uncertain future.

With a further postponement now confirmed, a professor of mathematics at Columbia University has taken a close look at how things could pan out in the Premier League this season with the help of an advanced statistical model.

The model, which has been created by Professor Julien Guyon, has been used by FIFA.

It analyses factors such as the strength of an opponent, and home and away form, which FIFA use to compile their men’s and women’s FIFA World Rankings.

Based on the data, West Ham would avoid relegation as the statistical model is predicting bad news for the current bottom three - Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Norwich City - as they are all being tipped to fall through the trapdoor and into the Championship.

Cost of failing to complete Premier League season

Premier League executives have reportedly been told that they will owe £762million in broadcast revenue if the season cannot be completed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Athletic state that all 20 clubs were told during the crisis meeting on Thursday at Premier League headquarters that the cost would come due to a breach of contract in terms agreed for domestic and international rights.

The suspension is said to be costing Sky huge amounts of money per day due to the pause they are offering customers in their sports subscription packages and a loss in advertising revenue.
