Joan Akien’s The Wolves of Willoughby chase is a masterpiece as far as I’m concerned. This classic had me gripped to the book, I literally couldn’t get away! I fell in love with the setting Joan created, ‘a period of time that never happened’.
Timid orphan Sylvia, goes to live with her cousin Bonnie, on the huge estate Bonnie’s rich father owns. When Bonnie’s parents go on a long sea voyage, a cruel governess (Miss Slighcarp) comes to look after the two girls. Miss Slighcarp, and her equally cruel friends, hatch a devious plan that will plunge everyone into despair, causing the girls to walk by foot for two months to London.
This fast paced novel will keep young and old hooked.
