The Witcher fans approve of Netflix's choice for Vesemir as season 2 casting announced

The Witcher has cast the character of Vessmir, whose appearance was teased in the season one finale.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding who will play the character, who serves as a friend and mentor to the fantasy show’s lead character, Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill).

Netflix has now announced that the character will be played by Kim Bodnia, the Danish actor from The Bridge and Killing Eve.

Bodnia’s casting has been met with approval from fans of the popular series, who had been hoping Star Wars actor Mark Hamill would play the role.

“Spot on,” one fan tweeted, adding: “He’s going to portray it perfectly.”

Another wrote: “He’s basically playing the role of a wise elder man on Killing Eve. And he nails it. Think this is a very solid choice.”

The news follows reports that Game of Thrones star Kristofer Hivju had joined the cast for season two.

Rumours of Hivu’s casting surfaced after director Stephen Surjik named him in a now-deleted Instagram post about the second season.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich recently announced the new season will introduce a big timeline change following fan criticism.

Hissrich explained the decision in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) last month, saying: “The narrative structure was put in place so that we could tell Geralt’s short stories (the foundation of the whole Witcher world, in my opinion), while Ciri and Yennefer could also be a part of the action.

The Witcher, based on source material written by Andrzej Sapkowski, follows a monster hunter in a world known as The Continent

Season two is expected to be available to stream on Netflix in 2021.
