The Wire's Bunk hoping for Dublin trip to cheer on beloved St Pat's

Wendell Pierce, best known for playing Bunk Moreland in TV show The Wire, is hoping to be in Dublin to cheer on his beloved St Pat's in next month's FAI Cup final.

The 57-year-old American actor wants to be at the Aviva when his side take on Bohemians in the showpiece final on November 28.

Including a link to a Pogue song, Pierce tweeted: 'He “Bunk” will return to the shores of Ireland to see his champions if it’s the last thing I do!"

Pierce explained his unlikely connection to the Inchicore club back in 2013: "I'm a New Orleans man, so I support the Saints here and after I sent a few NFL tweets a few years back a whole load of Supersaint fans in Dublin tweeted me, Now I'm an honorary Supersaint, although I'm embarrassed to say that as yet I haven't been to a game, but I will.

"We chat on twitter all the time and I follow the team's results."

The last time St Pat's won the FAI Cup was in 2014 when they beat Derry City 2-0.
