The Wire actor Lance Reddick dies just days after pulling out of movie premiere

Actor Lance Reddick has died at the age of 60.

The body of the star, best known for his roles on The Wire and John Wick, is said to have been found at at his Studio City home Friday morning.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ the cause of death is currently unclear, but it appears to be natural.

He was taking part in a press tour for the fourth instalment of popular franchise John Wick prior to his death. He plays the role of Charon in the movie and was scheduled to talk about the latest movie on Kelly Clarkson's talk show next week.

On Wednesday he posted a video of himself with his dogs on social media. The clip came as he was due to be attending the Wick 4 premiere in New York City. The actor never mentioned why he chose not to show up at the event.

Prior to Wick, Lance was famed for his role as Baltimore Police Department officer Cedrick Daniels on hit show The Wire. His character appeared in all five seasons of the popular HBO series.

Other small screen credits on his resume included shows such as Fringe, Bosch, Oz and Lost. Movies he featured in included Angel Has Fallen and Godzilla Vs Kong.

He currently has a number of unreleased projects he had been working on, including the Greek god Zeus in Disney+'s upcoming series titled Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Following the news of his death, fans and famous faces took to social media to share messages of condolence.

Fellow actor on The Wire Wendell Pierce led the way, writing: “A man of great strength and grace.

"As talented a musician as he was an actor. The epitome of class. A sudden unexpected sharp painful grief for our artistic family. An unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. Godspeed my friend. You made your mark here. RIP."

And Isiah Whitlock Jr, who also starred alongside Lance on The Wire, added: "Shocked and saddened by the news that Lance Reddick has passed away. Truly heartbreaking. R.I.P. My friend. You will be missed. God speed."

Hollywood star Ben Stiller penned: "Lance Reddick was a beautiful and compelling actor. And a beautiful person. He worked with my mom Anne Meara in her play ‘Afterplay’, playing Raziel, the waiter slash angel of death. He was exquisite in that and all he did."

While director James Gunn said: "Lance Reddick was an incredibly nice guy, and an incredibly talented actor.

"This is heartbreaking. My love goes out to all his family, friends, and collaborators."

Fans also took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one user writing: "RIP Lance Reddick. One of my favourite actors and the only person to ever scare Eric Andre. Always gave the performance of his life in anything he was in from John Wick to The Wire to Fringe. He will be dearly missed."

Another penned: "Rest in Peace, Lance Reddick. You are so loved," while sharing a black and white image of the star.
