The Wire actor Chris Clanton 'hospitalised after being shot in the ear'

American actor Chris Clanton was rushed to hospital after being shot during an incident that has launched a police investigation.

The 35-year-old star – famous for playing Savino Bratton in season 1 and 5 of iconic crime drama The Wire – is said to have been shot in the ear on Thursday evening.

Chris was injured in the incident that is said to have occurred at approximately 7pm on Thursday in the US city of Baltimore.

Initial reports have said it is unclear if the actor had been specifically targeted in the shooting – but have confirmed the actor has been discharged from hospital after treatment for his injury.

TMZ reported on Friday night about the incident, stating a police investigation is under way about the shooting.

A spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department told the outlet that officers are: “investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday around 7 PM, and a 35-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the ear.”

They added that: “medics responded and took the victim to a hospital for treatment.”

Police have also called for witnesses to come forward with details to help the investigation.

The city’s Northeast District Shooting detectives and Baltimore's Metro Crime Stoppers have appealed for information from the public.

It is reported by the Baltimore Police Department that: “Northeast District Shooting detectives responded and assumed control over the investigation.”

Chris has been violently attacked in the past.

In 2008 he was hospitalised after being stabbed in the chest and buttocks at a party in Maryland.

Chris feature in nine episodes of The Wire – which aired on HBO over five seasons between 2002 and 2008.

He has featured in horror movies Mega Shark vs Kolossus and The Human Centipede III (Final Sequence).

While his most recent acting credit was in a 2016 TV series called The Unrest: Web.
