The William Saliba transfer problem Arsenal could face at the end of the season

Mikel Arteta will be embarking on his first full season in charge of Arsenal next season.

But when will that season begin?

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the current schedule hard, with no games being played since March 9.

The Premier League is not due to return until April 30 at the earliest, with the stark possibility that the suspension could go on even longer.

Leagues around Europe are in the same situation, with Ligue Un in France not due to return until mid-April at the earliest.

And that could affect an Arsenal summer signing.

Premier League stars past and present keep themselves entertained

The Gunners have already agreed a deal for this summer – signing William Saliba from Saint Etienne last summer before allowing him to remain in France on loan this year.

But could the coronavirus outbreak cause Arsenal issues with regard to when Saliba will be allowed toi join up with his new team-mates?

Ordinarily, the French centre-back would be due to arrive at the Emirates on July 1, folowing the conclusion of his current deal with St Etienne.

But will the Ligue Un club have finished playing by then?

And if they haven’t does Saliba stay to finish the season with the French outfit, or join up with his new Arsenal team-mates as scheduled?

Chelsea face the same situation with Hakim Ziyech, whom they have signed already ahead of the 2020/21 season.

The Blues secured him on a deal from Ajax soon after the January transfer window close, with Ziyech to join Chelsea this summer.

And former Manchester United keeper, and now Ajax director Edwin van der Sar explained that talks were ongoing at the Dsutch side over what was going to happen and there are sure to be similar conversations in France.

He said: "A task force will be set up, in which all the difficult matters will be covered.

"All the possibilities and options will be discussed there. If you can’t finish before June 30th, there will be an opportunity there to make certain adjustments that no one thought possible."
