The Widow: Everything you need to know as Kate Beckinsale returns to the small screen

Kate Beckinsale has swapped Hollywood for the small screen in The Widow, a big budget drama airing on ITV.

A co-production between the British channel and Amazon Studios, it stars Beckinsale as a devoted wife who embarks on a question to uncover the truth after her husband mysteriously disappears.

The show has a strong pedigree when it comes to its behind-the-camera credentials too: it was co-written by Harry and Jack Williams, the sibling team behind The Missing, its spin-off Baptiste and recent thriller Cheat.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of its much-anticipated premiere.

What is The Widow about?

Investigation: Kate Beckinsale stars as Georgia Wells (Two Brothers / Coco Van Oppens )

Beckinsale plays Georgia Wells, whose husband Will was reported dead after a plane crash in the Congolese jungle.

Years after the fatal accident, she is compelled to visit Kinshasa, the last place he was seen alive, after she seems to spot him in the background of a news report. There, she embarks on an attempt to discover what really happened to her spouse.

Who is in the cast of The Widow?

Star-studded cast: Beckinsale is joined by Charles Dance (ITV)

Joining Beckinsale is veteran actor Charles Dance, who plays Georgia’s godfather Martin Benson, an ex-military man who has been supporting her since her father passed away.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who star Alex Kingston takes the role of Judith Gray, Will’s former business partner.

Australian actor Matthew Le Nevez appears as Will in flashback scenes and Babs Olusanmokun (who has previously appeared in Black Mirror) plays Azikiwe.

When is The Widow on TV?

The series begins at 9pm on ITV on April 8, with the following episode airing the next night (April 9). Future episodes airing at the same time on subsequent Mondays and Tuesdays.
