Love writing your own stories and poems? Here’s a great competition for you to enter. The Wicked Young Writers’ Award is open for submissions from 14 January (that’s tomorrow) for the 2015 awards.
Young writers in the UK and Ireland (from five to 25 years old) are asked to send in their original stories or poems to hopefully wow this year’s panel of judges, chaired by Michael Morpurgo and including How to Train Your Dragon author Cressida Cowell.
This year for the first time they’ll also be a Fan Fiction award category run with Sugarscape.
The Wicked Young Writers’ Award was set up in 2010 by Michael Morpurgo with the musical Wicked and it’s championed by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall.
Scot Wilson, told us about his experience of winning the 15-17 year old category last year: “Everyone was telling me that they loved my story, shaking my hand, taking pictures, I got to meet the cast of Wicked and Michael Morpurgo… it was all pretty surreal, to be honest, but it was amazing, and I got to see my story published in a book (and free tickets to see Wicked weren’t too bad, either!)”
Pieces can be submitted until 18 April 2015, and a shortlist of 100 entrants will see their poem or story published in the Wicked Young Writers’ Award Anthology as well as being invited to a glamorous prize ceremony at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London in July 2015.
The overall winners from each category will win a VIP family experience to Wicked London, including an exclusive backstage tour and cast meet-and-greet, £50 worth of book/eBook tokens, plus £100 worth of books for their school library donated by Hachette Children’s Books.
