The Whitlams hit Lizotte's for record-breaking six shows

RED HOT: The Whitlams will play a record-setting six shows at Lizotte's.

THE Whitlams love this city, and Newcastle audiences are certainly enamoured with Tim Freedman's band as well.

After selling out four consecutive nights at Lizotte's from August 3 to 6, The Whitlams have announced two additional dates on their Gaffage & Clink tour at the Lambton theatre for Tuesday, August 18 and Wednesday, August 19.

Lizotte's owner Brian Lizotte's confirmed The Whitlams are the most popular act in the venue's 11-year history since making their debut there in 2016.

"My brother [Diesel] and James Reyne have played four shows before, but we've never had five shows from one act," Lizotte says. "The guys love this place so much. They call it they're little cubby house or king's castle, so Tim said to keep the shows coming."

The Whitlams' Gaffage & Clink Tour has been met nationally with high demand.

Already 13 shows are sold out, which led to the No Aphrodisiac and Blow Up The Pokies hit-makers to announce an additional 11 dates.

Interest in the tour has piqued due to the forthcoming release of The Whitlams' new record in June, the band's first fresh material since 2006's Little Cloud.

Last week Freedman was asked by the Newcastle Herald's Lisa Rockman about why the tour was selling so quickly.

"I shouldn't try to come up with reasons why tickets are selling so well, because it sounds like I've got tickets on myself, but I am going to anyway," Freedman said.

"I think it's because we were the hardest working band in the country around 1997 to 2003 and we went everywhere and put on a professional show.

"Having said that, most of our crowd are returning customers - it's not like we are some new flash in the pan."

The record demand for Whitlams tickets at Lizotte's follows news this week that the Melbourne indie-pop star G Flip sold out three nights at the Cambridge Hotel.

G Flip is the first artist to ever play three consecutive nights at the 800-capacity Newcastle West venue.
