The White Lotus” season 4 is plotting a course for luxury. The next chapter of HBO’s resort satire is packing its bags for France, but not the surroundings we've come to expect.
According to Variety, season 4 is set to unfold primarily along the French Riviera with a storyline that also ventures into Paris, according to multiple reports.
All three seasons of the show have been filmed at Four Seasons properties: First, in Maui, Hawaii; then in Taormina, Italy; and most recently in Thailand. But that won't be the case in season 4. HBO's partnership with the Four Seasons has not been renewed, which has opened the door to alternative five-star resorts.
Previously, rumors pointed to filming taking place at the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat on the Riviera. Among the elite Parisian options reportedly being scouted now are Le Lutetia and the Ritz Paris, a sign that the production is considering multiple luxury backdrops instead of one single recurring hotel partner.
The shift to these five-star hotels, both of which have boasted celebrity tenants like Charlie Chaplin, Coco Chanel, and Pablo Picasso, could signify a bit of change for the new set of episodes.
Creator Mike White has previously hinted that he wants to pivot away from the surf imagery of earlier installments. That tracks with this report of location scouting in Paris. But even with boulevards and bistros instead of beaches, the show's signature mix of luxurious settings and uneasy storytelling will still be the same, with a new flavor folded in for a bit of a change.
Unfortunately, as far as season 4's cast or plot details, all of that continues to remain up in the air. Season 3's lineup included Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Walton Goggins, Jason Isaacs, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Blackpink's Lisa (credited as Lisa Manobal). Some of them may be able to reprise their roles, since "The White Lotus" has recycled cast members in the past, like Jennifer Coolidge.
We'll be keeping our nose to the ground to report on any new "White Lotus" details when they do surface. But for now, it looks like we'll need to keep playing the waiting game.
