The White House website welcomes ‘Red Socks’ for their World Series visit

Ahead of the Boston Red Sox visit with President Donald Trump in Washington D.C. on Thursday, the White House website featured a typo: “President Trump welcomes the 2018 World Series Champions The Boston Red Socks to the White House.” In fairness to Trump’s staff, the Sox were once known as the Socks in 1907. But more than a century later, it’s definitely Sox, not Socks. The mistake was both on the White House’s website and YouTube channel.

The typo won’t be the biggest headline surrounding the Red Sox visit. Manager Alex Cora and a handful of the team’s best players have elected not to attend. Cora’s reasons are political, as he a Puerto Rico native and disapproves of President Trump’s handling of the hurricane relief.
